Abstract Submission Guidelines

Clinical, translational, population, quantitative, and basic scientists across ORIEN® are invited to submit an abstract for oral or poster presentation at the 2024 ORIEN® Scientific Summit. Studies that utilize Total Cancer Care® (TCC) will be given preference for oral presentations and Travel Awards, but all research is welcome. All authors submitting abstracts are invited to present a poster, and those chosen for oral presentations will be notified by September 27th, 2024. Abstracts should adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Clearly and succinctly describe the purpose, significance, objectives, methodology, and conclusions of unpublished findings so that reviewers can evaluate the quality, originality, comprehensiveness, and impact of the work.
  • Titles should inform on the overall objective and significance of the work. The title should not contain abbreviations or exceed 150 characters (including spaces).
  • The body of the abstract should be structured as follows and not exceed 2500 characters (including spaces, excluding the author list, affiliations and Conflict of Interest disclosures):
    • Background
    • Methods
    • Results
    • Conclusion
  • Abbreviations may be used in the body of an abstract if they are defined at their first mention. Complex therapeutic regimens must be identified.
  • Summary figures, schematics, images, and tables can be included in the abstract; however no more than any combination of two are allowed and these do not count against the total word count.
  • Authors must confirm that all co-authors have been informed of the abstract submission and have agreed to the content.
  • There is no limit on the number of co-authors.
  • Conflict of Interest (COI) disclosures for all co-authors should be included at the end of the abstract. Any financial or competing relationships/affiliations should be disclosed.

Review of Abstracts

All abstracts will be scored independently by a peer review panel comprised of Aster Insights and ORIEN® Scientific Summit Planning Advisory Committee representatives on the following criteria:

  • Novelty of the research
  • Significance of the findings
  • Leveraging of ORIEN® TCC® and/or Avatar data
  • Clarity of purpose, significance, objectives, methodology, and conclusions
  • Impact on the field and potential treatment of patients

The review process is strictly confidential, and scores will not be provided to applicants.

Travel Awards

The ORIEN® Foundation is funding up to 10 travel awards in the amount of $750 each to encourage participation and support select trainees & early career scientists from ORIEN® member institutions with high-achieving abstracts. Early career scientists that fit into one of the following categories are invited to apply: medical student, graduate student, resident physician, postdoctoral fellow, clinical fellow, instructor, and junior faculty within three years of their first faculty appointment.

Abstracts Distribution

Accepted abstracts will be included in the Summit meeting materials, but not published elsewhere. Re-use of abstracts submitted for other conferences is allowed.
